On June, 18th, 1889, 121 years ago the American William Richardson has patented the first baby stroller.

But the real fashion on strollers has arisen only in 1840 when English queen Victoria, a mum of the nine children, has wanted to walk with the kids across Royal Park. Soon the fashion on strollers has extended in all aristocratic circles of Europe.

In 1980 Phil Baechler has decided to arrange a run together with his small son. However, because usual strollers wouldn’t sustain speed of an adult person’s run, Phil has decided to improve a model. So, this way he has invented three-wheeled strollers.

Baechler ideas were picked up by many baby strollers’ manufacturers, and in 2006 German company Kinzel K1 together with design studio Jahn-Design has presented a new generation of strollers: a crossover SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle) – a sports stroller for children and their parents. This is surprising but the inventor of the stroller was the personality famous for garden architecture. His name was William Kent and he invented the first baby stroller in 1733. Duke of Devonshire applied to him to devise some kind of transportation to carry children. So the first stroller was a shell-shaped basket on wheels strong enough to keep the child. The inventor decorated it in a beautiful way. It was meant to be pulled forward by a pony or a goat. The popularity of such strollers was confirmed after Queen Victoria acquired 3 strollers, which were made of wood or wicker at that time. The joints were made of brass, which was very expensive. It even became the symbol of high status to have a baby stroller. But they were not very functional then.
